Champion Hurdle

The Champion Hurdle is the highlight of day one of the Cheltenham Festival and the most well-thought-of hurdle race. It is open to horses aged four years old and upwards, and carries a total prize fund of £370,000.

The Champion Hurdle list of achievers sports some of the most highly heralded hurdlers in the sport’s history, such as National Spirit, Hatton’s Grace, Persian War and Lanzarote.

Like in any horse race there are constantly specialists either on the horse or who have prepared the horse for the race. Most of those specialists will be at the Cheltenham Festival and some will have a influence in the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle.
