World Hurdle
The Cheltenham World Hurdle is a Grade 1 National Hunt hurdle horse race for 4 year old and above horses run at the annual Cheltenham Festival in the United Kingdom.
It is run over a length of 3 miles on the new course at the Cheltenham Festival.
It was first run under its current conditions in 1972 as the Stayers Hurdle, changing to the present name in 2005 – the Ladbrokes World Hurdle.
By presenting both the Ryanair Chase and the World Hurdle on the Thursday of the Cheltenham Festival, organisers have ensured that day 3 lacks nothing in prestigiousness, despite not staging one of the 3 blue riband events.
In fact, the Ladbrokes World Hurdle has taken on elevated significance in its own right in past years.
